Initial Development Sketches
Unsure of what I originally wanted to model, I stumbled across an image of a chair by Kenneth Cobonpue and figured it would create an interesting render. It is made from weaved rattan (cane) and has upholstered cushions.
Early Model Development
It was at this early development stage that I decided to edit the design slightly. I decided to alter Cobonpue's chair to reflect my own design style.
Material Reference: Rattan (Cane)
Material Reference: Upholstery Fabric
For this assignment I wanted to try to get a close resemblance to the actual materials used in the design. They are woven rattan (can) and upholstery fabric. Bump maps, diffuse maps and glossiness and self-illumination maps were used where required to get the desired effect. The images below show the end result.

Sample Test Renders
For fun, I decided to follow a lighting tutorial on YouTube for 3dsMax. The renders shown above are two low quality renders that I generated from my fly-through. I loved the reflections and shadows it managed to produce, however it was impractical to render an entire animation in this fashion, at approximately 3 minutes for each of the above low quality renders. I would love to apply the skills and techniques I learnt here (different lighting tools, using mental ray materials, setting up renders, etc.) in my final assignment as it will be still frame renders.
